The Model 277-3 Three Wavelength Reflectometer measures
the high specular reflectance of mirrors at three wavelengths or low specular reflection
for coatings such as anti-reflection on glass. The instrument is table mounted and the end
of a fiber optics probe encased in a soft delrin sleeve is touched to the surface to be
measured. The three digital meters indicate the reflectance at each of the three
wavelengths. The Reflectometer is calibrated with an on-board known high reflector for the
mirror surfaces and a known low reflectance for low reflecting glass surfaces. The low
reflectance mode is used for values of reflectance less than 10%. The gain is increased a
decade and the instrument is able to measure small reflectance with a resolution of +0.01%.
|
The illumination source is a white light LED that is
electronically chopped and the reflected illumination is synchronously demodulated to
provide a system that has low noise and not affected by room light. The standard
instrument senses 430NM, 550NM and 660NM. Other wavelengths can be utilized if desired.
|
This instrument is typically used to measure the
reflectance of coated mirrors at three wavelengths. Periodic measurements are used for
determining when the mirror needs re-coating. The low reflectance mode enables the
operator to check the performance of antireflection coating by simply touching the surface
of the glass with the delrin probe.
